Drew VerHagen, relief pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2012. He pitched in the Tigers' minor league system from 2012 through part of 2015. In 48 games as a starting pitcher and 25 games as a reliever, he pitched 302.2 innings and he had a 3.30 ERA, 16 wins to 21 losses, and 183 strikeouts to 96 walks.

VerHagen spent most of the 2014 season in the minors, joining the Tigers for just one game that year. In 2015, he split his time between the minors and the Tigers. He pitched 26.1 innings in 20 games from the Tigers' bullpen and he had a 2.05 ERA. He had control issues, striking out just 13 batters while walking 14.

VerHagen spent time on the DL in 2016 with collarbone and shoulder injuries. In 19 games with the Tigers, he had a 7.11 ERA, 1 win and no losses, and 10 strikeouts to 7 walks in 19.0 innings.

VerHagen finished the 2017 season with no wins and 3 losses, 25 strikeouts to 9 walks, and a 5.77 ERA in 34.1 innings in 24 games.

VerHagen spent time on the DL in 2018 with a nasal fracture. In 41 games with the Tigers, he had 3 wins and 3 losses, 53 strikeouts to 19 walks, and a 4.63 ERA in 56.1 innings.

Verhagen spent part of the 2019 season on the DL and in the minors. He finished the season with 4 wins and 3 losses, 51 strikeouts to 23 walks, and a 5.90 ERA in 58.0 innings in 22 games.

The Tigers released Verhagen on November 25,2019. He played in Japan in 2020 and 2021.

Verhagen signed with the Cardinals on March 11, 2022.
