Eddie Butler, relief pitcher, was first drafted in 2009 by the Texas Rangers but he didn't sign with them. Three years later, he signed with the Colorado Rockies. He pitched in the Rockies' minor league system from 2012 through most of 2014.
Butler first joined the Rockies' starting rotation in 2014. In three games, he pitched 16.0 innings and he had a 6.75 ERA. He spent most of the season in the minor leagues. In 2015, he was a starting pitcher for the Rockies in 16 games. He finished the season with a 3-10 record, 44 strikeouts to 42 walks, and a 5.90 ERA in 79.1 innings. He also pitched 63.1 innings in 11 games in the minors in 2015.
Butler's time was split between the Rockies and the minors in 2016. He had a 7.17 ERA in 9 games as a starter and 8 games as a reliever with the Rockies. He finished the season with 2 wins and 5 losses and 47 strikeouts to 21 walks in 64.0 innings.
The Rockies designated Butler for assignment on January 28, 2017. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs on February 1st. He finished the 2017 season with 4 wins and 3 losses, 30 strikeouts to 28 walks, and a 3.95 ERA in 54.2 innings in 11 games as a starter and 2 games of relief with the Cubs. He didn't pitch in the postseason.
The Cubs traded Butler to the Rangers on July 27, 2018. He spent time on the DL in 2018 with a right groin strain. He finished the season with 2 wins and 3 losses, 2 saves, 29 strikeouts to 19 walks, and a 5.62 ERA in 8 games with the Cubs and 22 games with the Rangers.
Butler became a free agent on November 21, 2018. He played in the Korean Baseball Organization in 2019.
Butler played in the independent American Association in 2020.
The Kansas City Royals acquired Butler on May 5, 2021. He was released on September 8th. He played only in the minors in 2021.
