Elias Diaz, catcher for the Colorado Rockies, was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008. He played in the Pirates' minor league system from 2009 through 2016, joining the team for just two games in 2015 and 1 game in 2016.

Diaz played in 64 games with the Pirates in 2017. He finished the season with 42 hits, 14 doubles, and a .223 batting average. Defensively, as a catcher in 55 games, he made 37 assists, 356 putouts, and 4 errors. He caught players trying to steal 29.6% of the time.
