Jake Barrett, relief pitcher, started playing baseball at the age of ten. He was first drafted in 2009 by the Toronto Blue Jays but he opted instead to play for Arizona State University. Three years later, he was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Barrett pitched in the Diamondbacks' minor league system from 2012 through 2015. In 179 games, he pitched 185.0 innings and he had 9 wins to 10 losses, 78 saves, and 182 strikeouts to 75 walks.

In 2015, Barrett played on the US team in the Pan American Games.

Barrett finished the 2016 season with a 3.49 ERA in 68 games with the Diamondbacks. He had 1 win and 2 losses, 4 saves, and 56 strikeouts to 28 walks in 59.1 innings.

Barrett played in 28 games with the Diamondbacks in 2017. He finished the season with 1 win and 1 loss, 26 strikeouts to 15 walks, and a 3.96 ERA in 27.0 innings. He didn't pitch in the postseason.

Barrett spent most of the 2018 season in the minors, pitching just 7.0 innings in 7 games with the Diamondbacks.

Barrett was traded to the San Francisco Giants on February 5, 2019. Less than a month later, on March 1st, he was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The New York Yankees claimed him off waivers on April 4th. He spent time on the DL in 2019 with right elbow inflammation. He pitched just 3.2 innings in 2 games with the Yankees.

Barrett became a free agent on November 4, 2019. He played in the Mexican Pacific Winter League in 2020.

Barrett played in the Mexican League in 2021.
