Joey Wendle, infielder for the Miami Marlins, was first drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 2012. He was traded to the Oakland Athletics on December 8, 2014.

Wendle played in the minor leagues from 2012 through most of 2016. He batted .288 with 601 hits, 141 doubles, 273 RBIs, and 390 strikeouts to 137 walks in 523 games. Defensively, as a second baseman, he made 1,378 assists, 315 double plays, 949 putouts, and 49 errors in 476 games.

Wendle spent most of the 2016 season in the minors. He played in 28 games with the Athletics.

Wendle played in just eight games with the Athletics in 2017. He spent the rest of the season in the minors.

The Athletics traded Wendle to the Tampa Bay Rays on December 11, 2017. In 2018, Wendle batted .300 in 139 games. He had 146 hits, 33 doubles, 61 RBIs, 16 stolen bases, and 96 strikeouts to 37 walks. As a second baseman in 101 games, he made 222 assists, 57 double plays, 149 putouts, and 4 errors.

Wendle played in 50 games in 2020. He finished the season with 48 hits, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 17 RBIs, 35 strikeouts to 10 walks, and a .286 batting average. Defensively, he played 20 games at second base, 28 games at third base, and 10 games at shortstop. In the postseason, he batted .190 with 11 hits in 58 at-bats in 20 games.
