Jon Gray, starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers, was first drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 2010 but he opted instead to attend the University of Oklahoma. He was drafted the following year by the New York Yankees but again opted to play college baseball. In 2013, he was named the college National Pitcher of the Year.

Gray signed with the Colorado Rockies on June 6, 2013. He pitched in the Rockies' minor league system from 2013 through part of 2015. In 54 games, he pitched 276.0 innings and he had a 20-11 record, 274 strikeouts to 90 walks, and a 3.82 ERA.

Gray joined the Rockies for nine games in 2015. In 40.2 innings, he had a 0-2 record and a 5.53 ERA.

In 2016, Gray had a 4.61 ERA in 29 games with the Rockies. He finished the season with 10 wins to 10 losses and 185 strikeouts to 59 walks in 168.0 innings.

Gray finished the 2017 season with 10 wins and 4 losses, 112 strikeouts to 30 walks, and a 3.67 ERA in 110.1 innings in 20 games. In the Wild Card game, he pitched 1.1 innings and he gave up 7 hits and 4 runs.

Gray pitched in 31 games in 2018. He had 12 wins and 9 losses, 183 strikeouts to 52 walks, and a 5.12 ERA in 172.1 innings.

Gray had foot surgery in August, 2019. He finished the season with 11 wins and 8 losses, 150 strikeouts to 56 walks, and a 3.84 ERA in 150.0 innings in 26 games.

Gray spent time on the IL in 2020. He finished the season with 2 wins and 4 losses and a 6.69 ERA in 39.0 innings.

Gray again spent time on the IL in 2021. He finished the season with 8 wins and 12 losses, 157 strikeouts to 58 walks, and a 4.59 ERA in 149.0 innings in 29 games.

Gray became a free agent on November 3, 2021. He signed a four year, $56 million contract with the Rangers on December 1st.
