Kevan Smith, catcher, started as a football player at the University of Pittsburgh. After three years, he switched to baseball. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2011. He played in the minor leagues from 2011 through 2016. In 519 games, he batted .282 with 536 hits, 121 doubles, 314 RBIs, and 347 strikeouts to 189 walks. Defensively, as a catcher, he made 345 assists, 3,064 putouts, and 39 errors in 455 games.

Smith spent most of the 2016 season in the minors, playing in just 7 games with the White Sox.

Smith played in 87 games with the White Sox in 2017. He finished the season with 78 hits, 17 doubles, 46 strikeouts to 9 walks, and a .283 batting average. Defensively, as a catcher in 79 games, he made 27 assists, 572 putouts, and 2 errors. He caught players trying to steal just 12.5% of the time.

Smith played in just 52 games with the White Sox in 2018. He batted .292 with 50 hits. He also played in 30 games in the minors.

Smith became a free agent on December 2, 2019. He signed a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays on January 13, 2020. He played in just 17 games in 2020, and he batted .258. He didn't play in the postseason.

The Rays traded Smith to the Atlanta Braves on May 19, 2021. He elected free agency on August 13th after being sent down to the minors. He had a .168 batting average in 3 games with the Rays and 30 games with the Braves.
