Mallex Smith, outfielder for the Tampa Bay Rays, was first drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011 but he opted for college. A year later, he signed with the San Diego Padres. He was traded to the Atlanta Braves in December, 2014. He played in the minor leagues from 2012 through 2015.

Smith joined the Braves for 72 games in 2016. He finished the season with 45 hits, 16 stolen bases, 22 RBIs, and a .238 batting average. Defensively, he played 22 games in left field, 35 games in center field, and 1 game in right field. He made 122 putouts and 1 error.

The Braves traded Smith to the Seattle Mariners on January 11, 2017. Later that day, he was traded to the Rays.
