Michael Fulmer, starting pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, was first drafted in 2011 by the New York Mets. He was traded to the Detroit Tigers on July 31, 2015, in the trade that sent Yoenis Cespedes to the Mets.
Fulmer pitched in the minor leagues from 2011 through 2015. In 76 games, he had a 26-24 record and 365 strikeouts to 125 walks in 382.2 innings. He was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year in 2015. That year, he had a 10-3 record, 125 strikeouts to 30 walks, and a 2.24 ERA in 124.2 innings in 22 games.
Fulmer had a strong first season with the Tigers in 2016. He had an 11-7 win-loss record, 132 strikeouts to 42 walks, and a 3.06 ERA in 159.0 innings in 26 games. He won the American League Rookie of the Year award for his efforts.
Fulmer finished the 2017 season with 10 wins and 12 losses, 114 strikeouts to 40 walks, and a 3.83 ERA in 164.2 innings in 25 games.
Fulmer spent time on the DL in 2018. He pitched in 24 games and he had 3 wins and 12 losses, 110 strikeouts to 46 walks, and a 4.69 ERA in 132.1 innings.
