Michael Tonkin, relief pitcher, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2008. He pitched in the Twins' minor league system from 2008 through 2013, joining the Twins for just nine games in 2013.
Tonkin split his time in 2014 between the minors and the Twins. In 19.0 innings in 25 games with the Twins, he had a 4.74 ERA. In 2015, he again split his time between the minors and the Twins, pitching 23.1 innings in 26 games with Minnesota. He finished with a 3.47 ERA.
Tonkin finished the 2016 season with a 5.02 ERA in 65 games with the Twins. He had 3 wins to 2 losses and 80 strikeouts to 24 walks in 71.2 innings.
Tonkin spent time in the minors in 2017, pitching just 21.0 innings in 16 games with the Twins. He finished the season with a 5.14 ERA. The Twins released him on November 8, 2017. He didn't play professional baseball in 2018.
Tonkin signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers on January 22, 2019, and he was released on March 21st. A day later, he signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was released by the Brewers on May 30th. He signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 19th. He played only in the minors in 2019.
The Diamondbacks released Tonkin on May 22, 2020. He played only in the Caribbean Series in 2020.
Tonkin played in the independent Atlantic League, the Mexican League, and the Dominican Winter League in 2021.
