Sean Manaea, starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, was first drafted in 2013 by the Kansas City Royals. He was traded to the Oakland Athletics on July 28, 2015. In 2013, he had hip surgery that delayed his playing time in the minors. He pitched in the minor leagues in 2014 and 2015. In 39 games, he pitched 196.0 innings and he had 14 wins to 9 losses. He struck out 236 batters and walked just 80.

In 2016, Manaea had a 3.86 ERA in 25 games with the Athletics. He finished the season with 7 wins and 9 losses and 124 strikeouts to 37 walks in 144.2 innings.
