Steven Matz, starting pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, started pitching at the age of 10. He was drafted by the New York Mets in 2009. The following year, he had Tommy John surgery and he didn't start playing in the minors until 2012. He continued in the minors through most of 2015.
