Addison Reed, relief pitcher, was first drafted in 2010 by the Chicago White Sox. He pitched in the minor leagues from 2010 through most of 2011, joining the White Sox for 6 games in 2011.

In 2012, his first full season in the major leagues, Reed pitched in 62 games with the White Sox. He finished the season with 3 wins and 2 losses, 29 saves, 54 strikeouts to 18 walks, and a 4.75 ERA in 55.0 innings. The following season, he was the closer for the White Sox and he had 40 saves. He finished with a 3.79 ERA in 71.1 innings in 68 games.

Reed was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks on December 16, 2013. He pitched in 62 games in 2014 and he had a 4.25 ERA.

The Diamondbacks traded Reed to the New York Mets on August 30, 2015. He finished the 2015 season with a 3.38 ERA in 38 games with the Diamondbacks and 17 games with the Mets.

Reed had a strong 2016 season, finishing with career highs in games played (80), innings pitched (77.2), and strikeouts (91 to just 13 walks). He had 4 wins and 2 losses and a career low ERA of 1.97. In the postseason, he pitched 1.0 innings in the Wild Card game and he gave up one hit and no runs. He struck out one batter and walked two.

The Mets traded Reed to the Boston Red Sox on July 31, 2017. He finished the 2017 season with 2 wins and 3 losses, 19 saves, 76 strikeouts to 15 walks, and a 2.84 ERA in 48 games with the Mets and 29 games with the Red Sox. In the postseason, he pitched 2.1 innings in 3 games and he gave up 3 hits and 2 runs.

Reed became a free agent on November 2, 2017. He signed with the Minnesota Twins on January 15, 2018. He spent time on the DL in 2018 with right triceps tightness. He pitched in 55 games with the Twins and he had 1 win and 6 losses, 44 strikeouts to 15 walks, and a 4.50 ERA in 56.0 innings.

The Twins released Reed on May 21, 2019. He spent the 2019 season in the minors. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2019.
