Andrew Triggs, pitcher, was a top baseball player at the University of Southern California. He also excelled academically and in 2012 he was named the Pac-12 Baseball Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Triggs was drafted twice while at USC, first by the Cleveland Indians in 2010 and a year later by the San Francisco Giants. However, he didn't sign with a team until the Kansas City Royals drafted him in 2012. After playing in the Royals' minor league system for three years, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles on April 4, 2015. He continued to play in the minor leagues in 2015.

The Oakland Athletics claimed Triggs off waivers on March 16, 2016. He pitched in 6 games as a starter and in 18 games of relief with the Athletics in 2016. He finished the season with 1 win and 1 loss, 55 strikeouts to 13 walks, and a 4.31 ERA in 56.1 innings.

Triggs pitched in 12 games with the Athletics in 2017. He finished the season with 5 wins and 6 losses, 50 strikeouts to 19 walks, and a 4.27 ERA in 65.1 innings.

Triggs spent time on the DL in 2018. He finished the season with 3 wins and 1 loss, 43 strikeouts to 18 walks, and a 5.23 ERA in 41.1 innings in 9 games.

The Athletics released Triggs on August 1, 2019. He spent the 2019 season in the minors.

Triggs signed a minor league contract with the Giants on January 6, 2020. The Boston Red Sox claimed him off waivers on August 19th. He pitched just 8.1 innings in 1 game with the Giants and 4 games with the Red Sox.

Triggs became a free agent on October 26, 2020. He didn't play professional baseball in 2021.

Personal Life

In 2011, Triggs graduated magna cum laude with a degree in political science from USC. He continued to study in their MBA program in 2011 and 2012.
