Austin Pruitt, relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013. He pitched in the Rays' minor league system from 2013 through 2016. He was both a starting pitcher and a reliever in 2013 and primarily a starting pitcher from 2014 through 2016.

Pruitt pitched in 8 games as a starter and 22 games as a reliever with the Rays in 2017. He had 7 wins and 5 losses, 1 save, 66 strikeouts to 22 walks, and a 5.31 ERA in 83.0 innings.

Pruitt was a relief pitcher only for the Rays in 2018. He finished the season with 2 wins and 3 losses, 42 strikeouts to 16 walks, 4 saves, and a 4.65 ERA in 69.2 innings in 23 games. He also pitched in 14 games in the minors.

Pruitt split his time in 2019 between the majors and the minors. He played in 14 games with the Rays, and he had 3 wins and no losses, 39 strikeouts to 12 walks, and a 4.40 ERA in 47.0 innings. He also pitched in 48.1 innings in 18 games in the minors.

The Rays traded Pruitt to the Houston Astros on January 9, 2020. He spent the entire shortened 2020 season on the IL.

The Astros traded Pruitt to the Miami Marlins on July 28, 2021. He spent time on the IL in 2021 with recovery from right elbow surgery. He finished the season with a 3.68 ERA in 7.1 innings in 2 games with the Astros and 4 games with the Marlins.

Pruitt became a free agent on October 5, 2021. He signed a minor league contract with the Athletics on March 14, 2022.
