Brian Shaw, relief pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, was first drafted in 2008 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He pitched in the Diamondbacks' minor league system from 2008 through 2010.

Shaw split his time in 2011 between the Diamondbacks and the minors. In 33 games with Arizona, he had a career low ERA of 2.54 in 28.1 innings. He also pitched 38.1 innings in 31 games in the minors. He had his first full season in the majors in 2012, when he pitched in 64 games with the Diamondbacks. He finished the season with 1 win and 6 losses, 2 saves, 41 strikeouts to 24 walks, and a 3.49 ERA in 59.1 innings.

Shaw was traded to the Cleveland Guardians on December 11, 2012. In 2013, he had 7 wins to 3 losses, 1 save, a career high 73 strikeouts (to 28 walks), and a 3.24 ERA in 75.0 innings in 70 games. The following season, he pitched 76.1 innings in a career high 80 games and he had a 2.59 ERA. He had similar numbers in 2015, when he finished with a 2.95 ERA in 64.0 innings in 74 games.

Shaw pitched in 75 games in 2016. He finished the season with 2 wins to 5 losses, 1 save, 69 strikeouts to 28 walks, and a 3.24 ERA in 66.2 innings. In the postseason, he pitched 10.1 innings in 11 games and he gave up 14 hits, including 1 home run, and 5 earned runs. He struck out 12 batters and walked 5 and he had a 4.35 ERA.

Shaw finished the 2017 season with 4 wins and 6 losses, 3 saves, 73 strikeouts to 22 walks, and a 3.52 ERA iin 76.2 innings in 79 games. In the postseason, he pitched 6.0 innings in 3 games and he gave up 4 hits and 1 run. He struck out 5 batters and walked none.

Shaw became a free agent on November 2, 2017. He signed with the Colorado Rockies on December 15, 2017. He spent time on the DL in 2018 with a right calf strain. He finished the season with 4 wins and 6 losses, 54 strikeouts to 28 walks, and a 5.93 ERA in 54.2 innings in 61 games.

Shaw finished the 2019 season with 3 wins and 2 losses, 1 save, 58 strikeouts to 29 walks, and a 5.38 ERA in 72.0 innings in 70 games.

The Rockies released Shaw on July 17, 2020. He signed with the Seattle Mariners on July 23rd. He pitched just 6.0 innings in 6 games in 2020.

Shaw became a free agent on October 14, 2020. He returned to the Guardians on a minor league contract on February 3, 2021. He finished the 2021 season with 6 wins and 7 losses, 71 strikeouts to 38 walks, and a 3.49 ERA in 77.1 innings in 81 games.

Shaw became a free agent on November 6, 2022. He signed a minor league contract with the White Sox on February 22, 2023.
