Buddy Baumann, relief pitcher for the San Diego Padres, was first drafted in 2009 by the Kansas City Royals. He pitched in the Royals' minor league system from 2009 through 2015. He was a relief pitcher only in 2009, 2012, and 2013, and both a starter and a reliever during the other seasons.

Baumann became a free agent on November 6, 2015. The following month, on December 21, 2015, he signed with the Padres. He pitched in 11 games with the Padres in 2016, finishing with a 3.72 ERA in 9.2 innings. He spent the rest of the season in the minors.
