Cody Reed, relief pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, was first drafted in 2013 by the Kansas City Royals. He pitched in the Royals' minor league system in 2013 as both a starting pitcher and a relief pitcher and in 2014 as a starting pitcher.

The Royals traded Reed to the Cincinnati Reds on July 26, 2015. He spent the entire season in the minors.

Reed pitched in 10 games as a starting pitcher with the Reds in 2016. He finished with a 7.36 ERA, no wins and 7 losses, and 43 strikeouts to 19 walks in 47.2 innings. He also pitched 73.0 innings in 13 games as a starter in the minors.

Reed spent most of the 2017 season in the minors, pitching just 17.2 innings in 12 games with the Reds. He finished with a 5.09 ERA.

Reed pitched in 17 games with the Reds in 2018. He had 1 win and 3 losses, 42 strikeouts to 15 walks, and a 3.98 ERA in 43.0 innings. He also pitched 105.2 innings in 18 games in the minors.

Reed spent most of the 2019 season on the DL and in the minors. He pitched just 6.1 innings in 3 games with the Reds.

The Reds traded Reed to the Rays on August 28, 2020. He pitched 12.0 innings in 9 games with the Reds and 2 games with the Rays, and he had a 4.50 ERA.

Reed spent much of the 2021 season on the IL with left thumb weakness. He pitched in just 12 games with the Rays and he had a 3.72 ERA. He didn't pitch in the postseason.
