Dan Altavilla, relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 2014. He pitched as a starting pitcher in the Mariners' minor league system in 2014 and 2015.

Altavilla pitched in 15 games of relief with the Mariners in 2016. He finished with 10 strikeouts to 1 walk and a 0.73 ERA in 12.1 innings. He also pitched 56.2 innings in 43 games in the minors.

Altavilla pitched in 41 games with the Mariners in 2017. He finished the season with 1 win and 1 loss, 52 strikeouts to 20 walks, and a 4.24 ERA in 46.2 innings.

Altavilla spent time on the DL in 2018 with a right elbow UCL sprain. He finished the season with 3 wins and 2 losses, 23 strikeouts to 15 walks, and a 2.61 ERA in 20.2 innings in 22 games.

Altavilla was again on the DL in 2019, with a right forearm strain. He pitched in 17 games with the Mariners and he had a 5.52 ERA in 14.2 innings. He also pitched 31.1 innings in 29 games in the minors.

The Mariners traded Altavilla to the San Diego Padres on August 31, 2020. He finished the 2020 season with 2 wins and 3 losses, 1 save, and a 5.75 ERA in 20.1 innings in 13 games with the Mariners and 9 games with the Padres. In the postseason, he pitched 2.0 innings in 2 games and he gave up 2 hits and 1 run.

Altavilla spent most of the 2021 season on the IL. He pitched in just two games with the Padres.

Altavilla became a free agent on November 4, 2021. He signed with the Red Sox on March 30, 2022.
