Dansby Swanson, infielder for the Chicago Cubs, was a top player at Vanderbilt University. In 2014, his sophomore year, he was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player. He was drafted in 2012 by the Colorado Rockies but he didn't sign and instead continued at Vanderbilt.

Swanson was drafted by and signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015. He played in their minor league system in 2015. He was traded to the Atlanta Braves on December 9, 2015.

Swanson joined the Braves in 2016, playing in 38 games with them. He hit his first major league home run, an inside-the-park home run, on September 6th. In his time with the Braves, he batted .302 with 39 hits. Defensively, as a shortstop in 37 games, he made 79 assists, 17 double plays, 44 putouts, and 6 errors. He also played in 105 games in the minors in 2016.

In 2017, his first full season in the majors, Swanson batted .232 with 113 hits, 23 doubles 51 RBIs, and 120 strikeouts to 59 walks in 144 games. Defensively, as the Braves' shortstop in 142 games, he made 357 assists, 83 double plays, 195 putouts, and 20 errors.

Swanson spent time on the DL in 2018 with left wrist inflammation. He played in 136 games and he had 114 hits, 25 doubles, 14 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 59 RBIs, 122 strikeouts to 44 walks, and a .238 batting average. Defensively, as the Braves' shortstop in 136 games, he made 350 assists, 77 double plays, 165 putouts, and 10 errors. He didn't play in the postseason.

Swanson was again on the DL in 2019, with a right foot contusion. He finished the season with 121 hits, 26 doubles, 17 home runs, 65 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, 124 strikeouts to 51 walks, and a .251 batting average in 127 games. Defensively, as the Braves' shortstop in 126 games, he made 347 assists, 68 double plays, 137 putouts, and 12 errors. In the postseason, he had 7 hits, 3 doubles, 2 RBIs, 6 strikeouts to 1 walk, and a .389 batting average in 18 at-bats in 5 games.

Swanson played in 60 games in 2020. He finished the season with 65 hits, 15 doubles, 10 home runs, 35 RBIs, 5 stolen bases, 71 strikeouts to 22 walks, and a .274 batting average. Defensively, he played all 60 games at shortstop. In the postseason, he batted .267 with 12 hits, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, and 9 RBIs in 45 at-bats in 12 games.

Swanson finished the 2021 season with 146 hits, 33 doubles, 27 home runs, 88 RBIs, 167 strikeouts to 52 walks, and a .248 batting average in 160 games. Defensively, as a shortstop in 159 games, he made 376 assists, 64 double plays, 185 putouts, and 10 errors. In the postseason, he had 13 hits, 2 home runs, 1 double, and 4 RBIs in 58 at-bats in 16 games.

Swanson became a free agent on November 6, 2022. He signed with the Cubs on December 21st.
