Gorkys Hernandez, outfielder, was first signed by the Detroit Tigers in April, 2005. He spent two years in the Tigers' minor league system before being traded to the Atlanta Braves in October, 2007. He then continued in the Braves' minor league system until he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in June, 2009. He continued in the minors through 2011. He had his best season in the minors in 2007, when he was named the Midwest League MVP. That year, he batted .293 with 141 hits and 25 doubles in 124 games.
Hernandez was traded to the Miami Marlins on July 31, 2012. He had a .192 batting average in 25 games with the Pirates and 45 games with the Marlins in 2012.
The Marlins traded Hernandez to the Kansas City Royals on July 22, 2013. He spent the entire 2013 season in the minors. The Chicago White Sox acquired him in April, 2014, and they released him on June 11, 2014. He played in 75 games in the minors before being released.
Hernandez returned to the Pirates on a minor league contract on December 1, 2014. He spent most of the 2015 season in the minors, joining the Pirates for just 8 games.
Hernandez became a free agent on October 14, 2015. He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants nine days later. In 2016, he played in 26 games with the Giants, spending the rest of the regular season in the minors. He played in 3 games in the postseason with the Giants. He had one hit in six at-bats.
In 2017, Hernandez batted .255 in 128 games with the Giants. He finished the season with 79 hits, 20 doubles, 12 stolen bases, and 73 strikeouts to 31 walks. Defensively, he played 57 games in left field, 50 games in center field, and 20 games in right field.
Hernandez finished the 2018 season with 97 hits, 16 doubles, 15 home runs, 40 RBIs, 113 strikeouts to 27 walks, and a .234 batting average in 142 games.
Hernandez became a free agent on November 30, 2018. He signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox on December 13th. He spent most of the 2019 season in the minors, playing in just 20 games with the Red Sox.
Hernandez became a free agent on October 21, 2019. He signed with the White Sox on February 18, 2020. He was released on June 13, 2020. He played in the Venezuelan Winter League and the Mexican Pacific Winter League in 2020.
Hernandez played in the Mexican League and the Venezuelan Winter League in 2021.
