Ian Krol, relief pitcher, was first drafted in 2009 by the Oakland Athletics. He pitched in the Athletics' minor league system from 2009 through 2012. He started as a starting pitcher but he transitioned to a relief pitcher in 2012.

Krol was traded to the Washington Nationals in March, 2013. He split his time in 2013 between the Nationals and the minors. In 32 games with the Nationals, he had 2 wins to 1 loss, 22 strikeouts to 8 walks, and a 3.95 ERA in 27.1 innings. He also pitched 29.2 innings in 26 games in the minors.

On December 2, 2013, Krol was traded to the Detroit Tigers. Shoulder inflammation in 2014 limited his playing time with the Tigers to 45 games. He finished the season with a 4.96 ERA in 32.2 innings. The following season, his time was once again split between the major and minor leagues. In 28.0 innings in 33 games with the Tigers, he had a 5.79 ERA. He also pitched 31.1 innings in 28 games in the minors.

The Atlanta Braves acquired Krol in a trade on November 20, 2015. He pitched in a career high 63 games with the Braves in 2016. He finished the season with 2 wins and no losses, 56 strikeouts to 13 walks, and a 3.18 ERA in 51.0 innings.

Krol finished the 2017 season with 2 wins and 2 losses, 44 strikeouts to 21 walks, and a 5.33 ERA in 49.0 innings in 51 games.

Krol became a free agent on October 20, 2017. He signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels on January 31, 2018. After just one game with the Angels, he was designated for assignment on May 28, 2018. He elected free agency on June 1st. He signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets on June 10th, and he was released by their minor league Las Vegas team on September 2nd. He didn't pitch for the Mets in 2018.

The Cincinnati Reds signed Krol to a minor league contract on January 30, 2019. After playing only in the minors for the Reds, he left the Reds and signed with the Minnesota Twins on June 18, 2019. In August, he received a 50-game suspension for a failed drug test. He played only in the minors in 2019.

Krol became a free agent on November 4, 2019. He played with an independent league team in 2020.

Krol signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on December 12, 2020. He split his time between the Tigers and the minors in 2021. In 18 games with the Tigers, he had a 4.34 ERA.

Krol became a free agent on November 5, 2021. He signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres on March 18, 2022, and he was released on June 16th.
