JaCoby Jones, infielder for the Detroit Tigers, was a top player in high school. In 2010, He was named the Mississippi High School Player of the Year. He holds the record for the most hits of any Mississippi high school player.
The Houston Astros drafted Jones in 2010 but he opted instead to attend Louisiana State University. At LSU, he was again a top player and in 2012, he won the Cape Cod Baseball League Home Run Derby.
Jones was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013. After two and a half years in the Pirates' minor league system, he was traded to the Tigers on July 30, 2015. In November, 2015, he received a 50-game suspension for his second violation of the MLB drug program.
Jones played in 13 games with the Tigers in 2016. He batted .214 with 6 hits. He spent the rest of the season in the minors.
As a minor league player from 2013 through most of 2016, Jones batted .269 with 377 hits, 68 doubles, 47 home runs, 58 stolen bases, 203 RBIs, and 431 strikeouts to 120 walks in 364 games.
