Jake Esch, relief pitcher, was drafted by the Miami Marlins in 2011. He pitched in their minor league system from 2011 through most of 2016. He started as a relief pitcher in 2011, moved to being both a starter and reliever in 2012 and 2013, and became primarily a starting pitcher from 2014 through 2016.

Esch pitched in three games as a starting pitcher with the Marlins in 2016. He had a 5.54 ERA in 13.0 innings. He also pitched 142.0 innings in 26 games in the minors.

The San Diego Padres claimed Esch off waivers on March 31, 2017. He was released on June 12th. He signed again with them on June 21st. He spent the 2017 season in the minors.

Esch became a free agent on November 6, 2017. He played in the American Association in 2018. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2018.
