Joe Biagini, starting pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, had Tommy John surgery in 2010 while playing for the College of San Mateo. A year later, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants. He pitched as a starting pitcher in the Giants' minor league system from 2012 through 2015.

Biagini was acquired by the Blue Jays in the Rule 5 draft on December 10, 2015. He pitched in relief for the Blue Jays in 60 games in 2016. He finished the season with 4 wins and 3 losses, 1 save, 62 strikeouts to 19 walks, and a 3.06 ERA in 67.2 innings. In the postseason, he pitched 7.1 innings in 6 games and he gave up 3 hits and no runs. He struck out 6 batters and walked 1.
