Joe Musgrove, starting pitcher for the San Diego Padres, was first drafted in 2011 by the Toronto Blue Jays. A year later, on July 20, 2012, he was traded to the Houston Astros. He pitched in the minor leagues as both a starter and a reliever from 2011 through 2015.

Musgrove pitched in 10 games as a starter and 1 game in relief with the Astros in 2016. He finished the season with 4 wins to 4 losses, 55 strikeouts to 16 walks, and a 4.06 ERA in 62.0 innings. He also pitched in 16 games in the minors.
