Johnny Barbato, retired relief pitcher, was first drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2010. He pitched in the Padres' minor league system from 2011 through 2014. He was a starting pitcher in 2011 and a relief pitcher from 2012 through 2014.
Barbato was traded to the New York Yankees on December 29, 2014. He spent the 2015 season in the minors.
Barbato pitched in 13 games with the Yankees in 2016. He had a 7.62 ERA in 13.0 innings. He also pitched in 31 games in the minors.
The Yankees designated Barbato for assignment on April 12, 2017. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 17th. He finished the 2017 season with no wins and 1 loss, 23 strikeouts to 18 walks, and a 4.08 ERA in 28.2 innings in 24 games.
