Matt Bowman, relief pitcher for the New York Yankees, started as both a pitcher and a shortstop at Princeton University. He was drafted in 2012 by the New York Mets. He pitched in their minor league system from 2012 through 2015, starting as a relief pitcher in 2012. He was a starter from 2013 through 2015.

The St. Louis Cardinals claimed Bowman off waivers on December 10, 2015. He pitched out of their bullpen in 59 games in 2016. He finished the season with 2 wins to 5 losses, 52 strikeouts to 20 walks, and a 3.46 ERA in 67.2 innings.

Bowman finished the 2017 season with 3 wins and 6 losses, 2 saves, 46 strikeouts to 18 walks, and a 3.99 ERA in 58.2 innings in 75 games with the Cardinals.
