Rob Whalen, pitcher, was first drafted in 2012 by the New York Mets. He pitched in the Mets' minor league system from 2012 through 2014.

The Mets traded Whalen to the Atlanta Braves on July 24, 2015. He spent the entire 2015 season in the minors.

Whalen pitched in five games as a starting pitcher with the Braves in 2016. He had a 6.57 ERA, 1 win and 2 losses, and 25 strikeouts to 12 walks in 24.2 innings. He also pitched 120.0 innings in 21 games in the minors.

Whalen was traded to the Seattle Mariners on November 28, 2016. He spent most of the 2017 season in the minors, pitching just 7.1 innings in 2 games with the Mariners.

Whalen was again in the minors in 2018, pitching in just one game with the Mariners.

Whalen retired on March 5, 2019. He decided to come out of retirement on January 27, 2020, when he signed a minor league contract with the Mets. He was released on May 28th. He didn't play professional baseball in 2020.

Whalen started the 2021 season in the independent Frontier League. He signed with the Minnesota Twins on May 1, 2021, and he was released on August 10th. He played only in the minors with the Twins.
