Robert Stephenson, pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, began pitching at the age of nine. In high school, he pitched two consecutive no-hitters. He was named the Gatorade California Baseball Player of the Year in 2010.

Stephenson was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2011. He pitched as a starting pitcher in their minor league system from 2012 through 2015.

In 2016, Stephenson pitched in 8 games from the Reds' starting rotation. He finished with 2 wins and 3 losses, 31 strikeouts to 19 walks, and a 6.08 ERA in 37.0 innings. He also pitched in 24 games as a starter in the minors.

The Pirates claimed Stephenson off waivers on August 27, 2022.
