Ryan Buchter, relief pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, was first drafted in 2005 by the Washington Nationals. After three years in the Nationals' minor league system, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in November, 2008. He continued in the minors through 2010.
The Cubs traded Buchter to the Atlanta Braves in May, 2011. He pitched in the Braves' minor league system through most of 2014, pitching just 1.0 innings in 1 game with the Braves in 2014.
Buchter signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December, 2014. He was released by them on June 20, 2015. A month later, on July 24th, he signed again with the Cubs. He spent the entire 2015 season in the minors.
The San Diego Padres signed Buchter on December 8, 2015. He had his first full season in the majors in 2016, pitching in 67 games with the Padres. He finished the season with 3 wins and no losses, 1 save, 78 strikeouts to 31 walks, and a 2.86 ERA in 63.0 innings.
