Ryan Buchter, relief pitcher, was first drafted in 2005 by the Washington Nationals. After three years in the Nationals' minor league system, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in November, 2008. He continued in the minors through 2010.

The Cubs traded Buchter to the Atlanta Braves in May, 2011. He pitched in the Braves' minor league system through most of 2014, pitching just 1.0 innings in 1 game with the Braves in 2014.

Buchter signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December, 2014. He was released by them on June 20, 2015. A month later, on July 24th, he signed again with the Cubs. He spent the entire 2015 season in the minors.

The San Diego Padres signed Buchter on December 8, 2015. He had his first full season in the majors in 2016, pitching in 67 games with the Padres. He finished the season with 3 wins and no losses, 1 save, 78 strikeouts to 31 walks, and a 2.86 ERA in 63.0 innings.

The Padres traded Buchter to the Kansas City Royals on July 24, 2017. He finished the 2017 season with 4 wins and 3 losses, 1 save, 65 strikeouts to 26 walks, and a 2.89 ERA in 42 games with the Padres and 29 games with the Royals.

Buchter was traded to the Oakland Athletics on January 29, 2018. He spent time on the DL in 2018 with a strained left shoulder. In 54 games with the Athletics, he had 6 wins and no losses, 41 strikeouts to 15 walks, and a 2.75 ERA in 39.1 innings.

Buchter finished the 2019 season with 1 win and 1 loss, 50 strikeouts to 23 walks, and a 2.98 ERA in 45.1 innings in 64 games. He didn't pitch in the postseason.

Buchter became a free agent on December 2, 2019. He signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels on February 23, 2020. He elected free agency on September 6, 2020, and two days later, he signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees. He pitched just 6.0 innings in 10 games with the Angels in 2020.

Buchter elected free agency again on November 2, 2020. He signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks on January 18, 2021. He was released on August 20th. He pitched just 16.1 innings in 18 games with the Diamondbacks. He also pitched 16.0 innings in 16 games in the minors.

Buchter signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners on March 20, 2022. He was released on March 31st.
