Ryan Schimpf, infielder for the San Diego Padres, was first drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2009. He played in the Blue Jays' minor league system from 2009 through 2015.
Schimpf became a free agent on November 6, 2015. He signed with the Padres on November 25th. In 2016, he played in 89 games with the Padres. He started off very strong, hitting 9 home runs in the month of July and being named the National League Rookie of the Month. His first home run was on July 1st and his first grand slam was a month later, on August 12th. He finished the season with 60 hits, 17 doubles, 20 home runs, 51 RBIs, 105 strikeouts to 42 walks, and a .217 batting average. Defensively, he played 68 games at second base and 14 games at third base and he made 221 assists, 52 double plays, 112 putouts, and 6 errors.
