Yulieski Gurriel, infielder for the Miami Marlins, began his professional baseball career in Cuba. From there, he went to play in Japan in 2014 and 2015. He defected from Cuba in February, 2016, and he signed with the Houston Astros on July 16, 2016.

Gurriel played in 36 games with the Astros in 2016. He had a .262 batting average with 34 hits. Defensively, he played 5 games at first base, 21 games at third base, and 1 game in left field.
