Elvis Movies - Double Trouble
by Claire J Rottenberg
"Double Trouble," released in 1967, was
unusual for an Elvis film in the 1960s because it
actually had an interesting plot. It is a mystery,
filled with intrigue, suspense and excitement. It
also has a humorous subplot about two bumbling
diamond thieves.
"Double Trouble" has typically bad Elvis
songs with the exception of "Could I Fall in
Love?" Some of the dialogue and scenes are
corny and typical of Elvis' movies. The usual
fight scene, however, has more meaning to it since
Elvis is fighting to save his girlfriend's
life. In his other films, the fight scene is usually
the result of someone getting angry at Elvis, often
because of his singing that makes women swoon, and
then taking a punch at Elvis.
"Double Trouble" has some very funny
scenes, especially the ones with the two inept
thieves. The Wiere Brothers are also funny, playing
three clumsy, idiot police inspectors. It's
silly stuff but good for a few laughs.
Another plus for "Double Trouble" is the
fine acting from some of Elvis' co-stars. John
Williams, in particular, is very convincing as the
villain.
If you enjoy Elvis and a good mystery, "Double
Trouble" will give you double pleasure.
