Gemini Assistant Demo (Android tablet demo)

All of the activities in this section were done on a Lenovo M11 tablet and using Google's Gemini assistant. They are just a demo of what an AI assistant can do and should not be interpreted to mean that Siri will be able to do them. As an iPad user as well as an Android user, I'm hopeful that Siri will eventually be able to do these types of activities.

I have three Gemini assistant activities to share with you: a relatively simple task with a calendar, a more complex task that involved interpreting and analyzing information, and a demonstration of an interactive conversation. For all of the activities, Gemini needed to first look at my screen.

To start the first task, I created a list of calendar events in the Google Docs app:

1. Post Apple article on Monday
2. Copilot Notes Tuesday and Wednesday
3. Post Earning Gig on Friday
4. Go food shopping on Tuesday and Friday
5. Vacuum on Thursday

To call up the Gemini assistant, I said, "Hey Google," and a small window and text box popped up along with an option to read the screen. I had Gemini read the screen and asked her to put the items on my calendar.

Here's a screenshot of the calendar with all of the items. As you can see, Gemini did a great job with that task.

For the next task, I opened a browser and went to an article on one of my sites. I called for the Gemini assistant and said "Gemini, read my screen and write an abstract of the article." Note that Gemini was able to access the entire article and not just read the part that was displayed on the screen.

The abstract Gemini created is academic in tone and highlights the core theme of the article. It is not a simple summary but, rather, an analytical assessment of the content of the article.

Next, I asked Gemini to give me a list of ten key points in the article to use for a presentation. Once again, Gemini deserved an A+ for the response, especially since this task required further analysis of the article. Gemini interpreted what was in the article and formulated clear points for a presentation.

Gemini is an advanced AI, capable of analytical thinking, so it is not realistic to think we will see all of the above capabilities in Siri AI soon. But since Gemini is being used as the basis for the new Siri, it is possible that this in-depth thinking might come to Apple devices at some future time.
