Clint Barmes, retired shortstop, was first drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2000. After four years in the minor leagues, he was called up to the Rockies in 2003 to play in 12 games with them. The following season, he was again in the minors, playing in just 20 games with the Rockies.

Barmes spent time on the DL in 2005, playing in just 81 games with the Rockies. After a poor showing in 2006, he was again in the minor leagues in 2007, playing in just 27 games with the Rockies that year. He returned to the major leagues in 2008 but an injury limited his playing time to 107 games.

Barmes had his best season in 2009 when he batted .245 with career highs in hits (135), doubles (32), home runs (23), and RBIs (76). That year, he was primarily a second baseman for the Rockies.

In November, 2010, Barmes was traded to the Houston Astros. He moved back to the shortstop position in 2011. That season, he batted .244 with 109 hits and 27 doubles in 123 games.

Barmes joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in November, 2011, when he signed a two-year, $10.5 million contract with them. In 2013, he played in 108 games and batted just .211 with 64 hits.

In December, 2013, Barmes signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates to be the backup shortstop to Jordy Mercer. He finished the 2014 season with 25 hits and a .245 batting average in 48 games.

On December 5, 2014, Barmes signed with the San Diego Padres. He finished the 2015 season with 48 hits, 14 doubles, and a .232 batting average in 98 games. As a shortstop, he made 167 assists, 28 double plays, 87 putouts, and 8 errors in 89 games. He had a .969 fielding percentage.

Barmes became a free agent after the 2015 season when the Padres bought out his 2016 option. He signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals on February 18, 2016. The Royals released him on May 23, 2016, after just 29 games in their minor league system. He hasn't played professional baseball since 2016.

Barmes retired on May 23, 2016.
