Alex Rios, retired right fielder, was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1999 and he played successfully for several years on Toronto's minor league teams. He finally had his first at-bat in the majors in 2004. In his rookie year, Rios played in 111 games and batted .286 with 122 hits.

In April, 2008, Rios signed a seven-year contract with the Blue Jays. However, on August 7, 2009, the Blue Jays put Rios on waivers. Three days later, the Chicago White Sox claimed him off waivers. On August 9, 2013, Rios was traded to the Texas Rangers. He finished the 2014 season with 138 hits, 30 doubles, 54 RBIs, 17 stolen bases, and a .280 batting average.

Rios signed a one-year, $9.5 million contract with the Royals on December 19, 2014. He finished the 2015 season with 98 hits, 22 doubles, 32 RBIs, and a .255 batting average in 105 games. As the Royals' right fielder in 105 games, he made 215 putouts and 3 errors. In postseason play, he batted .271 with 13 hits, including 2 doubles and a home run, and 6 RBIs in 48 at-bats in 16 games.
