Alexei Ramirez, retired shortstop, began his professional baseball career in Cuba, playing for 7 years there. In December, 2007, he signed a 4-year contract with the Chicago White Sox. Ramirez had a good first year with Chicago in 2008, batting .290 with 21 home runs and 77 RBIs. In 2010, he won a Silver Slugger award.

Ramirez had his best season in 2013, with career highs in hits (181), doubles (39), and stolen bases (30). He finished the 2014 season with 170 hits, 35 doubles, 15 home runs, 74 RBIs, 21 stolen bases, and a .273 batting average. He won his second Silver Slugger award in 2014.

Ramirez finished the 2015 season with 145 hits, 33 doubles, 17 stolen bases, 62 RBIs, and a .249 batting average in 154 games. As a shortstop, he made 462 assists, 105 double plays, 206 putouts, and 16 errors in 152 games.

Ramirez signed a one-year $3 million contract with the San Diego Padres on January 22, 2016. He was released by the Padres on September 4, 2016. Later that month, he signed with the Tampa Bay Rays.

In 2016, Ramirez batted .241 with 115 hits, 22 doubles, 48 RBIs, and 63 strikeouts to 21 walks in 128 games with the Padres and 17 games with the Rays. As a shortstop in 127 games, he made 317 assists, 84 double plays, 162 putouts, and 14 errors.

Ramirez became a free agent on November 3, 2016. He didn't play professional baseball in 2017. He signed with a Mexican League team on March 22, 2018. He played in Mexico until he was released on August 16, 2018.

Ramirez retired in 2021.
