Mike Redmond, former manager of the Miami Marlins, managed for two years in the minor leagues and he had a 13 year career as a major league catcher before being hired as manager of the Marlins in November, 2012.

After playing baseball in high school and college, Redmond played on the US Olympics baseball team in 1992. That year, he also signed with the Marlins, playing with their minor league teams from 1993 through 1996. Surgery kept him off the field in 1997, but in 1998, he finally made his major league debut with the Marlins, playing in 37 games that season.

Redmond continued to play for the Marlins through the 2004 season. From 2005 through 2009, he played with the Minnesota Twins and he finished his last season, 2010, with the Cleveland Indians. Redmond's career statistics include 764 games, 649 hits, 117 doubles, 243 RBIs, and a batting average of .287.

In 2011 and 2012, Redmond managed teams in the minor leagues. He received a three year contract to manage the Marlins on November 1, 2012. His first season as the Marlin's manager was not a good one, with the team ending in fifth place in the National League East division with a dismal 62-100 win-loss record. The Marlins and Redmond fared much better in 2014, finishing in third place with a 77-85 record.

In September, 2014, the Marlins showed their confidence in Redmond's managerial abilities by giving him a two-year contract. However, after a poor 16-22 record at the start of the 2015 season, he was fired on May 17th. In his three years as the Marlins' manager, he led the team to 155 wins to 207 losses.

Redmond was hired as the Colorado Rockies bench coach on November 16, 2016.
